How much does dental treatment cost?

If you are not exempt from charges there are now just three simple standard price bands (effective from 1st April 2017):

Band 1: £22.70
This covers an examination, diagnosis (e.g. x-rays), advice on how to prevent future problems, and a scale and polish if needed.
Band 2: £62.10
This covers everything listed in Band 1 above, plus any further treatment such as fillings, root canal work or if your dentist needs to take out one or more teeth.
Band 3: £269.30
This covers everything listed in Bands 1 and 2, plus crowns, dentures or bridges.

NHS dental care is always available if you are in severe pain, whether you have a regular dentist or not. Urgent treatment when your dentist is closed includes treatment that is necessary to relieve severe pain or bleeding. If you are not exempt from charges, urgent care will cost £18.80. If you need urgent treatment when your dentist is closed call the NHS 111 helpline for advice

You will be guaranteed a high quality service from dentists that are regularly inspected by the NHS.
You can get all the treatment you need on the NHS - from a routine check-up to crowns, dentures and bridges.
Treatment is free for:

Children under 18
Full time students (aged 18)
Pregnant women and new mums
People on a range of benefits

Help with health costs is also available for families with a low income.
